Ryan first came to my studio when they were a senior in High School. They then introduced me to their sister, family and friends. And through these people I learned about family, love, and the importance of acceptance. My studio thrummed with ideas, excitement, laughter, and, sometimes, quiet talk about the world Ryan was exploring and their expectations. Memories I will cherish. Ryan has moved from our small community and is making their place in the world. Our visits are few and far between and I miss the laughter and quiet discussions.
It has taken me quite a while to consider myself a photographer. In my lifetime I have been daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, empty nester, widow, and partner.Never in those years was I a photographer. Frankly, except for family memories, I didn't have time. Some might, and have said that I am stubborn.I prefer determined. When I had time later in my life to learn new skills, I decided to be determined about photography. It has been a Life changing, challenging new skill. I have always seen stories in the world around me,now I have a way to tell them.
