Stuck in the middle of the bloodiest and longest battle of the war in Ukraine, Yegor, Nikita, Melania, and Alina survived in the city of Bakhmut from the early weeks of the Russian invasion in 2022 until the last weeks of the battle in the spring of 2023, just before the Russian forces conquered the city. Forced to live for months in a never-ending thunderstorm, the children divided their time between hiding in an underground basement and attempting to lead a somewhat normal life outside, despite the immediate danger to their lives.
