The UN World Drug Report 2021 highlights how the devastating effects of drug use have not been stemmed since last century to date. These photos are part of my ongoing project launched in 2021 on the journey of residents of San Patrignano, an Italian rehabilitation community for drug addicts. For the first year, letters represent the only contact with the outside. To try to restart it is necessary to disconnect from the past for a while. There are often human relations to be, at least, to be understood. Here writing a letter means accepting one's own and others' weaknesses, breaking free.
Photographing is about invading. Moved by strong emotions, humanity, fear, fragility and wonder, I focus on documentary photography and social topics. The connections, the meanings of the facts is what I am looking for, in an attempt to understand the complexity of what I experience. My images often give no answers, they have none. I follow invisible lines that often lead me to build relationships in the edges of the social fabric.
