Ice preserves, similarly a photograph freezes time and is taken to keep a memory alive. However, whilst appearing to offer eternal life old analogue snapshots are fragile and easily destroyed. They are defenceless against physical deterioration and ageing. These previously treasured paper objects will eventually, finally, fade. Accordingly, they mimic the inevitable disappearance to which we are all destined. Only empty spaces remain.
I am a Worcestershire based photographer with an interest in the preservation of photographic archives and their use in an artistic practice. We only see snippets of information when viewing any photograph, there is always a gap between what we see and what we truly know. This break in time is what makes snapshots unequalled; my interventions allow alternative and new dialogues to be imagined.
