Through my editing, I use the lighting to emphasise the three-dimensionality of the building, thus setting it apart from its surroundings. But I also emphasise the surroundings in a subtle way with my delicate lighting. The long exposure turns bodies of water into calm surfaces, while clouds become tousled. When I feel it is important, I partially emphasise clouds with light to enhance the effect of the building.
My name is Bernd Gantert. I was born on 7 April 1960 in Germany. I worked as an architect for 40 years until the end of August 2025. I have been retired since 1 September 2025, but I am still a member of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects in Germany. Four years ago, I took part in two workshops on black-and-white fine art photography. Even before that, I was fascinated by the artwork of Joel Tjintjelaars. In addition to classic black-and-white photography, my great passion is BNW fine art processing of long exposures. The results of my work can also be seen on 1x.com and 100ASA.
