Colour Divides was photographed on a mobile phone in Cape Town’s historic Bo-Kaap neighbourhood. A blue Ford Cortina rests between vividly painted pink and green houses, where colour, geometry and chance briefly align. The homes were once traditionally painted white, with today’s bright facades associated with later expressions of freedom, ownership and identity after emancipation. The title refers both to the visual divisions within the frame and to South Africa’s layered history of separation and belonging.
