In Brazil, the sea is more than scenery, it is a ritual to wash away the weight of daily life. Science now proves what Brazilians have always known: "blue spaces" lower stress and nurture mental health. Through a decade of travels, this series moves toward the elemental, stripped of color distractions and captured from unique aerial perspectives. It explores our diverse connection to the ocean—from quiet shores to bustling beaches, where every relationship with the water finds its own landscape: a place of meeting, contemplation, rest, and permanence.
Humberto Mauro is a Brazilian photographer from the countryside of São Paulo. Trained as an environmental engineer, he used photography in his undergraduate thesis to analyze ecosystem loss. His practice began with local flora, skies, and lightning, expanding into landscapes and birds, alongside aerial imagery and portraiture. His work reveals the quiet beauty of natural scenes that everyday life overlooks. Some of his photographs now exist as paintings and as tattoos on his own body.
