Urban Syntax

Road markings are designed to guide, divide, and regulate movement. Yet when isolated from traffic and their surroundings, these familiar signs lose their practical function and become an abstract language of lines, colors, arrows, and rhythm. In these images, directions intersect, paths diverge, and order gradually approaches confusion. The asphalt becomes a canvas on which the city writes its rules. By viewing these markings as geometry rather than instruction, Urban Syntax explores the quiet systems that shape how we move, choose, and occupy urban space.

I’m a South Korea–based photographer drawn to stillness, structure, and the subtle rhythms of everyday spaces. With a background in science and surgery, I tend to see the world through a lens of precision—yet I seek poetry in shadow, repetition, and silence. I mostly shoot with Leica gear, exploring themes of minimalism and abstraction in the urban and architectural details around me.
