This series documents the work of a farrier, a profession that has supported horse and human companions for more than 1500 years and remains an essential part of our equestrian heritage. A farrier works through smoke and heat in close connection to the horse. The obscured compositions reflect the reality of a profession that largely exists behind the scenes, while their work is fundamental. I followed a local farrier as she heats, shapes, and fits horseshoes and she is partly revealed at last to bring deserved recognition to her work.
Nannie has an extensive background in the equestrian world and, as a self-taught artist, has evolved into a fine art photographer specializing in equine photography. Her years of working with horses at an international level have given her a profound understanding of their behaviour, presence, characters and unique energy. Today, she observes and approaches horses from a different perspective — through the lens of her camera. This rare combination of expertise and artistic vision allows her to create a genuine connection with her subjects, resulting in intimate and striking portraits.
