The wild Spirit

A spirit of Lucchese tradition, the Linchetto—reinterpreted in a feminine form—becomes a metaphor for rebellion and irreverence, qualities essential for breaking the chains of oppression. Its presence is fleeting, an apparition slipping between wakefulness and dream. Blue envelops it, dragging it into an impalpable dimension, while red surfaces in objects as traces of an arcane code, echoes of a hidden power. The image fragments, the body dissolves, leaving only traces. It is in its absence that the Linchetto becomes most alive—elusive and free.

Nicoletta Cerasomma is an Italian artist born in Lucca. Her research investigates the erasure of feminine identity — through memory, violence, and silence — using photography, installation, and archival materials. Dust, gold, fire, and light become agents of meaning in works that move between dream and collective memory. Her previous work addressed violence against women directly. This project continues that investigation — rooted in history, in one city, in names that were never footnotes.
