Silver 2026 Nature / Macro

Chlorophyll Trance

  • Photographer
    Marcel van Beek
  • Prize
    Silver in Nature / Macro

This macro sequence explores the interiority of plant beings through a visionary perspective. By employing in-camera motion blur, intentional inversion, and a shallow bokeh, the work captures the "trance" of the natural world exploring layers of Monstera leaves. The focus shifts from biological detail to a visualised sensory experience, where the blurred boundaries represent a spiritual immersion in the environment. This pentaptych rejects literal representation in favour of a raw, kinetic encounter with the greenery, rendering the microscopic world as a vivid, transcendental journey.

Marcel van Beek (b. 1990 in Bonn) is a Leipzig-based visual artist. His photography moves between fine art, close observation of nature and scientifically informed visual research. He explores how surfaces, water, concrete, vegetation and urban spaces store time, memory and change. His work has received international awards and is held in public collections.
