Four Seasons on Plates

  • Photographer
    Zili Zhang

This series was developed over the course of three years, with each image using seasonal plants placed on plates or bowls with chopsticks to convey a unique story or concept. Spring uses Crocus, the first flower blooming in the early spring, to tell a story of the circle of life. Summer uses a water lily floating in a bowl to symbolize the concepts of Nirvana. Autumn is inspired by a Chinese saying: "so beautiful that it is also delicious. Winter uses winter berries to tell an alternative version of Noah's Ark saga, in Sting's song "Rock Steady."

Zili Zhang is an award-winning photographer based in Greenwich, CT. He was named Conceptual Photographer of the Year by Exposure One, Gold from 1839 Awards and ND Magazine. His work has also been recognized by Smithsonian, IPA, PX3, TIFA and many more. He explores quiet visual dialogues and seeks serenity through simplicity. His photographs aim to transform the ordinary into timeless, poetic expressions.
