"The Land of Gun Care and Health Control"

  • Photographer
    Mati Gelman

In this three-part piece, I investigate how reproductive rights and gun laws in the United States increasingly reveal an intensifying clash between moral beliefs and the realities of policy-making. Through symbolic imagery, this series confronts the divisive nature of American socio-political discourse, highlighting the power dynamics at play when legislating issues related to life, health, and personal freedom.

Mati Gelman is a self-taught commercial and fine art photographer. Born in Hungary, he grew up in Israel, where he earned a Bachelors in Biochemistry and a Masters in Chemistry, before moving to New York City, where he discovered photography. Mati’s images explore sexuality, queerness, and human integration with nature, sparking a sense of unease. Originally a chemist manipulating matter and molecules, Mati now manipulates pictures and pixels in exploration of context and meaning.
