Wadi Rum, a unique travel experience

  • Photographer
    Oliver Lahrem

Join me on a journey to Wadi Rum. Everyone is surely familiar with the images from the film "Lawrence of Arabia." A lot has changed in the Jordanian desert since then. You can stay in authentic Bedouin tents or simply sleep under the stars—and there's something for luxury lovers, too. You can hike through the desert, ride a tromedary, or take a jeep tour. The ultimate experience, however, is a hot-air balloon ride over Wadi Rum to watch the sunrise. And in the evening, you'll experience a breathtaking sunset to top it all off.

I am 54 years old and live in Seligenstadt, Hesse. For many years, I worked as a landscape gardener, where I was able to work creatively with nature. Due to tragic events, I can no longer pursue my profession, which gave me time to devote more intensively to photography. Initially, it was primarily while traveling and in nature that I discovered abstract and contemporary photography. With a camera, you can create beautiful, individual works of art; you just have to get involved. This doesn't happen at the push of a button, however; it happens intuitively, based on the situation.
