Amongst my late parents’ analogue snapshot collection is a photograph that has happy days written in dad’s distinctive handwriting across the front. Ironically, Mum and dad’s snaps of a bygone era are now physical reminders of what has been lost; the halcyon days long gone. A gap exists between past and present but a photograph is more than just a visual prompt, it is a trace that offers a direct link to the past. Combining my archival snapshots with contemporary imagery of places, objects, trees and flowers I collapse time and weave new narratives.
I am a British photographic artist with a particular interest in the preservation of analogue snapshot archives and their use in an artistic practice. Using various techniques my work explores abstract concepts. Whether working with contemporary or archival imagery my interventions allow alternative and new dialogues to be imagined.
