Gold 2024 Fine Art / Abstract

Polychromo

Gold in Fine Art / Abstract

This work is part of a project started in 2021. It joins my passion for photography and joy of science. I bought a series of >50 year old research microscopes, and connected my modern digital camera to them. The main microscope is set up with polarising filters and wave plates. The result is a colourful view of microscopic crystals of mixtures of sweeteners and other chemicals. 16 Chromaluxe prints of this work were included in a successful exhibition - Polychromo at Alveston Fine Art in March 2023. Additionally, they won non professional IPA Fine Art Photographer of the Year 2023.

Born in London, but growing up in South Africa as the son of two working artists (painters), Bevil has been familiar with the art world, from a very young age. Since moving back to the UK at age 20, Bevil has worked as a computer programmer and IT consultant, living and working in London for the past 32 years. For all of this time, he has been an avid photographer, and taken many paid assignments to photograph products, people, events, and hobbyist forays into the wonders of nature, from astrophotography, to nature photography, landscapes, macro, extreme macro, and now photomicrography.
