My concept initially stems from a deep personal response to the beauty of nature, and in particular trees. I am heavily influenced by historical and alternative photography processes; tin type, ambrotype and daguerreotypes, from the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as etchings and lithography. With their ragged edges, blurred focus and time-worn colours in sepia and monochrome, I see perfection in their imperfections. As well as general photography I hand gild my photographs in gold, copper and silver leaf, creating a beautiful lustre and richness to the images. I am self taught.
