Coastal Mammoth is a series examining the newly erected seawall in northeastern Japan, known as the Tohoku region, more than a decade after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011. The body of work surveys the 400 km long artificially formed shorelines to illustrate the impact of the region’s coastal ecosystem while interrogating the effectiveness of such structure as a disaster prevention method in the era of climate change.
