A farmer’s day usually starts before dawn, and finishes after dusk. The work is intense and often solitary. Days off are rare, yet many farmers struggle to make a living. Farmers are also seen to be strong, masculine and stoic. Despite all of this, farmers are strongly driven by their heritage which in turn creates a deep attachment and commitment to their land and animals. This study - State of Mind - follows one individual farmer in an attempt to depict this often unseen story of farming and provide a glimpse into its impact upon farmers’ mental health.
