The characters in this photographic series are some of the 200 occupants of an old dilapidated slaughterhouse abandoned in 1978 and located on the outskirts of Rome. They come from various parts of the world, belong to different ethnic groups, each characterized by its own culture, religion and traditions. The living conditions within this structure are extremely difficult due to the scarcity of basic services, such as water, electricity and heating and lack of healthcare. Living in an environment like the one described requires extraordinary strength and resilience.
Franco Buoncristiani lives in Rome and he is 57 years old. He works at Linde Material Handling Italia spa. He began to interest in photography in 1999. His photography is aimed at the social issues, particularly the Roman suburb and the new immigration. He mastered in photography in Bologna with Photo Image and Fulvio Bugani.
