Hal Borland once said, "Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience.” As a photographer, the practice of capturing images of trees requires a patient hand and a willingness to appreciate the fragility of our natural environment. This series, I hope, brings a certain serenity and calmness to the viewer and encourages a reconsideration of all that trees have to offer.

I have been adhering to an essentialist philosophy for most of my working life. As a journalist, I focused on removing what was unnecessary and leaving only what was crucial to telling a coherent, meaningful story. I later followed author Greg McKeown’s view that life is about challenging the core assumption of ‘we can have it all’ and ‘I have to do everything’ and replacing it with the pursuit of ‘the right thing, in the right way, at the right time’.
