When we visit a new land, we connect with the spirit of the place leaving a piece of us. ZANJ is a body of work shot in Zanzibar in 2023 that shows the transformative power of art and imagination by combining photography, collage and precious fabrics. In my eyes, the seasonal workers of the resort where I was staying, also the Masai and the children, transform into tribal leaders linked to their noble ancestors, kings and princesses. I create temporal doors to remember the resilience of the African people who have gone through, and still go throug, a painful history of injustice and slavery.
