In a darkened studio, with a modeling light, I stood alone with a camera, surrounded by and draped in props, listening to the stillness and silence. The only voice was the one in my head, whispering, to look here, at the camera, inward and back, and recognize the place where I stood, where I'd been, and where I might be going. The exercise was a meditation, embracing time, mine and the generations prior, nodding to the collective we.
