This series is inspired by the bust of Nefertiti and is titled La Belle est Venue, the French translation of Nefertiti, literally “Beauty has come”. Surrealist theory is central to my photography. Surrealist thought drew heavily on Sigmund Freud’s investigations of the subconscious. The images address the role of memory and the subconscious in the creative process. The deconstructed appearance reflects the fragmentary nature of the mind. I use the mannequin as a vessel for my emotions. Through overlays and juxtapositions I search to create a reality beyond reality.
