Interview with Bon Koo
BIFA 2022 Winner, 1st Place, Non-Professional Nature category, “Over Easy Alien Egg Fry”
Q: Tell us a little bit about your background. How did you come to fall in love with photography?
It has been 9 years since I started photography and I started it as a hobby. I loved traveling and really fell in love with nature and exploring.
Q: Could you elaborate on how you took this award-winning picture? What was the main concept and what was your process for creating it?
This photo was taken in White Pocket, Arizona. The road was rough and photographers usually don’t take this route, but I was lucky to catch a reflection of shallow frozen ice after entering during winter. The concept was like fried eggs from the beginning but due to the size of it, I titled it Alien Overeasy Egg Fry.
Q: What does receiving this honor entail for you?
As an amateur, it is a great honor and pleasure to win the first place prize in the nature category and the gold prize in the landscape category. I think the idea and concept was captured perfectly.
Q: What other photographers’ work, practices, or styles have had an influence on your own?
I usually see a lot of famous artists’ works. I think I was inspired by that.
Q: Photography is a great medium for communicating various messages to people. What are your thoughts on this tool and how do you use it?
I agree that photography is a genre that conveys various messages to people. The photo will be with me until I can press the camera shutter.
Q: What difficulties do you think photographers face today?
There are a lot of people who enjoy filming and there are alot of older people that do photography, but sometimes it is dangerous when you go to rough places to take photos of the scenery.
Q: Where do you find inspiration for your projects?
In nature, you find the target of filming according to how you feel.
Q: What would the setting be for your ideal photo shoot? Do you have any tools or accessories that you must include?
There are no special settings or tools, and depending on the situation and inspiration, I use a filter.
Q: What are your future plans? Are you presently engaged in any intriguing projects that you can share with us?
My dream is to be healthy and live in a good place. Currently I am planning to travel abroad to discover new places and enjoy the beauty of nature.
